Event Description

Vesna Pavlović, Sites of Memory, 2017, Archival Pigment Print, Courtesy Museum of Yugoslavia.

The University Art Gallery proudly presents Vesna Pavlović’s "Fabrics of Socialism," on view in the University Art Gallery of the University of the South from August 29 – October 14, 2018. In "Fabrics of Socialism," photographs and footage of state events and celebrations - propagandistic images of political unity from the former Yugoslavia, a country which disintegrated into brutal sectarian violence in the early 1990s - are exposed as manufactured. Visions of state propaganda, despite their monumentality, are revealed to be fragile, distorted and obscured by time. Artist talk and a reception with Pavlović is at 5 p.m. on September 14 in Convocation Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
