Pianist Jan Jiracek von Arnim: "A Night In Vienna"

Pianist Jan Jiracek von Arnim has been lauded by BBC Magazine for his "formidable technique and playing of emotional depth. A short program of piano music will be followed by tales from life on the concert stage, as well as the experience of teaching at the Vienna School of Music.

Artist Lecture: Amy Sherald

Portrait artist Amy Sherald was the first woman to win the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery's Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition. In February 2018, her official portrait of former First Lady Michelle Obama was unveiled at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery. Sherald has said of her stylized portraits of African-Americans, "In a sense I try to take care of the viewer, to see a self reflected back." The topic of Sherald's lecture will be her past projects, and her artistic practice.

Intersection: Stravinsky to Marsalis

This concert elebrates the 100th anniversary of Igor Stravinsky's theatrical L'histoire du Soldat by pairing the work with Wynton Marsalis's companion piece, A Fiddler's Tale. In addition to the musicians of Intersection, this family-friendly performance also features choreography by Gerald Watson.

ALIAS Chamber Ensemble: Novel Noise

To begin the first season of new artistic director Alicia Enstrom, ALIAS has selected a program that explored the juxtaposition of modern sounds. Chimers by Phyllis Chen makes use of a variety of bell sounds - from serious instruments to found objects and toys. And Mikromechanishe Momente by Chris Walters includes a composer-created original keyboard machine. All making use of the resonant acoustics of Christ Church Cathedral.
