Event Description

Laura Petrovich-Cheney, Scrapped, 2014. Salvaged wood, 24" x 24".

"Life in Patterns" an exhibit by Laura Petrovich-Cheney of works created with reclaimed materials from the Gatlinburg fires of 2016 &Hurricane Sandy (2012) will be at Belmont University's Leu Art Gallery through September 7th, 2018. Ms. Petrovich-Cheney is a sculptor whose work mirrors the human experience, so full of transformation, second chances, reinvention, & resilience. Her work finds meaning within experienced natural disasters & the debris that litters the affected communities. The once organized neighborhoods become recognizable only as piles of rubble haphazardly distributed during the chaos of the storm. These devastations serve as evidence to how we all suffer loss regardless of color, language or economic status. Our hearts break equally & painfully. Laura’s own story unfolded when her parents lost their home after Hurricane Sandy; and subsequently, her father eventually lost his life repairing that home.
