Rachel Iacovone | Nashville Public Radio

Rachel Iacovone

Morning Host

Rachel Iacovone (YAH-kuh-VOAN-ee) is the morning host for Nashville Public Radio.

Rachel began her public radio career covering politics in Florida during the 2016 presidential race. Rachel was outside as the eye of Hurricane Irma passed over Southwest Florida and on air for WGCU, the same station she listened to as a kid as Hurricane Wilma tore the roof off her childhood home.

Rachel is a Florida Gulf Coast University alumna (wings up!) and an avid AP Style enforcer. When she’s not hosting or reporting, Rachel can be found cooking and posting her creations to social media, all while watching true crime shows.

Kids Baking Championship / Food Network

Two of Food Network’s latest pastry prodigies are from right here in Nashville. Kids Baking Championship is a competition with a $25,000 prize for America’s most talented kid.

Along with the population surge in Nashville, there’s been unprecedented growth in public art. If you’ve been to the Gulch lately, you’ve probably seen the line wrapping around the block to take a picture with “the angel wings” — the WhatLiftsYou mural by Kelsey Montague.

“Old Town Road” is still riding the top spot of the Billboard Hot 100. Lil Nas X’s breakout country rap hit broke the previous 16-week record held by Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito.”

Now, it’s 18 weeks and four remixes in, with little sign of the phenomenon ending.

WPLN’s Rachel Iacovone spoke with Billboard’s senior director of charts, Keith Caulfield, to try to understand how Lil Nas X and his “Old Town Road” have managed to do it.

The National Museum of African American Music just received one of its largest donations yet.

The Music City Center is giving $6 million to the yet-to-be-opened museum, which will be located on the former site of the convention center.
