Your First Look At The 2019-20 Nashville Symphony Classical Series

Feb 8, 2019

The upcoming 2019-20 Nashville Symphony Classical Series will highlight the talent of featured soloists like Garrick Ohlsson, Bomsori Kim and the symphony's own Jun Iwasaki, while the series closes with a performance from celebrated pianist Daniil Trifonov.

Audiences can look forward to seeing a familiar face in May of next year: conductor and former Nashville Symphony music adviser Leonard Slatkin will step on the podium again to lead a program of sea-themed works.

The series will also feature a handful of live recordings, including of works written by Gabriela Lena Frank, whose collaboration with Nashville's ALIAS Chamber Ensemble was nominated for a Grammy in 2011, and Tennessee native Jennifer Higdon, whose recorded album All Things Majestic earned the Nashville Symphony a Grammy just last year.

Also of note is the pairing of Schostakovich's Symphony No. 4 with Beyond the Score, a program aiming to give audiences a deeper look at the work, its context and history, and ultimately ask the question: "Is music dangerous?"
